Variety profile

Shakti (Albino Malabar)

Malabar-associated selection · Pale tissue · Wavy reported margins

Shakti is a pale Psilocybe cubensis selection usually called Albino Malabar. Its white-to-cream appearance and frequently wavy cap margins distinguish its descriptive profile from the pigmented Malabar parent-line accounts.

Lineage & history

A dated October 2021 participant discussion identifies Shakti as an albino Malabar selection and attributes it to MycoMama Angela. Broader community compilations also credit Fahthyr O’Blivion. This supports a community attribution without establishing a complete authenticated pedigree. [2]

Appearance & identifying traits

  • Overall coloration: White to creamy-white (reported albino presentation)
  • Cap shape & texture: Often convex when young, later flattening; cap margins may appear wavy or crinkled in many isolations
  • Stem: White to off-white, frequently thick and sturdy in appearance
  • Veil remnants: Partial veil commonly leaves an annular ring as fruits mature (typical of P. cubensis)
  • Bruising/oxidation: Blue bruising is commonly observed after handling or damage

Reported appearance varies between specimens. Mature cap, stem, gill, and spore traits are not structures present in a liquid-culture syringe.

Microscopy & pigmentation

  • Spore notes: As a true albino expression, Shakti is often described as producing translucent or very lightly tinted spores compared to the typical dark purplish-brown P. cubensis spore print
  • Gill structure: Crowded gills (typical of P. cubensis), useful for studying basidia/cystidia and spore development stages

The traits above describe mature reference specimens. Pale caps, faint spore deposits, and reduced spore production are separate observations and should not be used interchangeably.

Research & genetic context

The 2026 comparative study includes Jack Frost × Shakti, a cross that must be distinguished from Shakti itself. It does not provide a standalone chemical certificate for this Shakti culture. [3]

Reported characteristics

  • Aliases: Shakti and Albino Malabar are common labels.
  • Lineage distinction: An albino selection and a hybrid involving that selection are different records.
  • Pigment language: The pale presentation is well described; its exact molecular cause was not established by the sources reviewed.
