Golden Teacher is a familiar Psilocybe cubensis cultivar recognized for golden to caramel caps, pale stems, and a classic cap-and-stem form. Its long circulation and recognizable appearance make it a useful subject for comparative microscopy, taxonomy, and genetic observation.
Lineage & history
Species: Psilocybe cubensis. The variety name is an informal cultivar label within this species. Earle originally named the species Stropharia cubensis in 1906; Index Fungorum records Singerās current combination in 1948. [1]
Golden Teacher (GT) is a long-established named cultivar associated with late-20th-century circulation. Its exact discovery date and the often-repeated Georgia-farm origin story remain unverified. The speciesā Cuban naming history does not establish the cultivarās original location.
Appearance & identifying traits

Golden caps, veil remnants, and dark spores are descriptive features shared with other cubensis cultivars. They cannot independently authenticate the Golden Teacher label.
Research & genetic context
McTaggart and colleaguesā 2023 population-genomics study included a Golden Teacher-named genetic group. Cultivar labels did not map neatly onto genetic relationships, and many historical pedigrees remain unauthenticated. A familiar name therefore does not establish a single universal genotype. [2]
The 2026 comparative chemistry study included Jack Frost Ć Golden Teacher, a named cross, rather than a standalone GT sample. Its results should not be presented as testing of this Golden Teacher product. [3]

Giving 5 stars because the syringe looked awesome and the myc looked clean and this was probably an awesome culture but I was never able to find out. š
I was unable to see these grow because I used this syringe on an all in one grow bag that happened to be contaminated before inoculation. One day after it was injected, the entire bag was covered in green mold. It was clear that this contamination couldn't have come from the syringe. The bag company never reimbursed me for the lost syringe.
Moral of the story: Stay away from Mushroom Supplies, they got dirty bags.
