B+ (B Positive) | Classic P. cubensis Workhorse Genetics

A cornerstone lineage prized for recognizable morphology and broad study value.

B+ (often written “B Plus” or “B+”) is one of the most widely circulated Psilocybe cubensis varieties in modern mycology circles. It’s commonly described as a “workhorse” lineage—valued for its reliably recognizable cube morphology, frequent reports of large fruiting bodies, and consistent spore characteristics used for microscopy, taxonomy training, and comparative genetic observation.

Genetic Lineage & Historical Context

  • Species: Psilocybe cubensis
  • Lineage status: Classic, widely distributed cubensis variety (non-albino, non-hybrid designation in common vendor taxonomy)
  • Era of circulation: Commonly reported to have gained traction in the 1990s–early 2000s (exact origin remains debated)
  • Origin stories (reported): Frequently associated with Florida (USA) in online and vendor histories; other accounts place early distribution through Europe/Netherlands kits or broader pan-tropical sourcing (claims vary)

Because “strain” names in P. cubensis are largely community/vender designations rather than formal taxonomic ranks, B+ should be treated as a widely recognized named variety rather than a formally described subspecies.

Visual Characteristics (Macro Morphology)

  • Cap coloration: Cinnamon to golden/caramel-brown; some descriptions note a darker center when mature
  • Cap shape: Convex when young, flattening with maturity; often broad at full development (typical cubensis progression)
  • Stem: Thick, pale to whitish stem is commonly described; stems may be hollow or semi-hollow in mature specimens (typical of many cubensis)
  • Veil remnants: Partial veil frequently leaves an annular ring on the stipe (a hallmark cube trait)
  • Bruising: Blue oxidation on handling or damage (characteristic of psilocybin-containing Psilocybe species)

Microscopy & Taxonomy Notes

  • Spore print color: Deep purplish-brown (typical of P. cubensis)
  • Gill structure: Adnate to adnexed attachment; gills darken as spores mature (species-typical)
  • Why B+ is favored: Widely referenced “standard cube” morphology makes it useful for microscope learners comparing spores, gill edge features, and general cubensis baselines

Research Notes (Educational Context)

Educational and descriptive context only.

  • Reported “strain” reputation: Often characterized in modern literature as resilient and consistent under varied conditions, making it a frequent reference point in general strain discussions
  • Analytical relevance: In community and review-style writing, B+ is commonly mentioned alongside other “classic” cubensis lines when discussing variability in alkaloid expression and morphology across named varieties
  • Naming notes: The meaning of “B+ / B Plus / B Positive” is widely debated; “Be Positive” is a common interpretation, though definitive documentation is scarce

Cultivation Characteristics (High-Level Overview)

  • Difficulty: Commonly described as beginner-friendly genetics (descriptive only)
  • Growth behavior: Frequently reported as consistent and robust in general discussions (descriptive only)
  • Environmental tolerance: Often noted as broadly adaptable across varied environments (descriptive only)

For safety and compliance, this section is descriptive only and excludes instructions, parameters, or cultivation techniques.

Collector & Researcher Highlights

  • Widely recognized variety: One of the most frequently cited and distributed named P. cubensis lines
  • Educational standard: Often recommended for morphology/spore familiarity work due to its “classic cube” presentation
  • Abbreviation: Commonly referred to as B+ or B Plus Positive

Why liquid culture over spores (for research):

  • Established genetics: derived from a stable, widely recognized lineage
  • Cleaner observation: minimal extraneous material for microscopy prep – Made in front of a scanned, 99.99% efficient HEPA filter
  • Reliable morphology: ideal for repeated comparative study
  • Shelf Life: 9-12 Months (Refrigerated DO NOT FREEZE)

Shipping: Fast and Free USPS shipping to all 50 states and U.S. territories including Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. Expedited USPS Priority options available. Products shipped daily (see our Shipping FAQ page for shipping times and questions) No cheap culture and outrages shipping cost. What you see is what you pay.

Add B+ (B Positive) to your genetic library and explore one of the most recognizable P. cubensis reference varieties in modern microscopy culture.

Important Notice:

Once home, cubensis cultures should be kept in a fridge between 33-40°F to maximize their lifespan of 6-12 months.
Do not let your cultures freeze! While most will survive one freeze-thaw cycle, multiple freeze-thaw cycles will kill any live mycelium.

As far as I can tell this order of liquid culture is just water. No response of any kind. Expensive and worthless.

I was new to mycology and finding somewhere to get my spores was a process to say the least but with a friend's recommendation I purchased liquid culture from Cube Culture. They were at my door in just a few days and the quality put into their products is what I noticed first but what matters most is culture itself, which was alive and did it's job very well. I'm not so new anymore but continue to use their cultures even after trying a few of their competitors. Trust me when I say that the one thing that discouraged me the most in myco was having nothing happened after a month of waiting! If you were anything like me when I start a new hobby is the need to see some results for my time and work or I lose interest. So if that sounds like you, then start with good materials if you want good results. There's a few things you can skimp on in the myco field and shortcuts you learn how to incorporate into your"style" but one thing you can't skimp on is SPORES!!!

Just for customer service alone I would give a 5 star. If there's anything less than perfect about their cultures, don't hesitate to contact them before reviewing; they are the nicest people ever!
P.S the Cultures are bomb too ;P

My first to work, must have been super forgiving haha. Fantastic vendor, great product and service. Using LC is way better than spores, this strain is hardy.

Great research done with CC. Iƒ??m new to microscopy and most of my early research failed, but cubeculture samples have gone beyond expectations. I donƒ??t know where or why some people have given below five stars, but I know Iƒ??ve personally found my go to vendor. I never leave reviews, but I felt it was imperative in this situation. So hard to fail with this hobby, but Cubeculture seems nearly foolproof.

My order came fast with a dope sticker the LC was healthy and plentiful I got 11cc so there’s no skimpy with cube culture. I have inoculated 2 grain bags and both have a dollar bill size of healthy mycelium growing in 72hrs. I would suggest stopping your search for genetics here you found it. Goodluck to all and thank you cube culture

I used this LC to inoculate 2 spawn bags and both got contaminated by day 4. I’m pretty sterile with my practice so I either had bad spawn bags or bad spawn. I’ll give it a 3 because I know not everything can always be perfect. As a first time customer this is unfortunately my first experience.
